| A loud brassy Cole Porter instrumental musical from the 1930's Big Band era, "Anything Goes" takes place on an oceanliner bound for London from New York City. It details the exploits of a young lovestruck Wall Street broker's assistant (Billy Crocker) who stows away without a ticket or passport to follow his true love Hope Harcourt who is to be married to another. The plot thickins as Billy is assisted by a wannabe gangster Moonface Martin, a night club singer Reno Sweeney and Martin's companion Bonnie. Who try to help him convince his love intrest not to ditch him for an arranged marraige set up by her mother to a prominent business man. Billy goes through many changes and impersonations as he tries to dodge both his boss Elisha J. Whitney who is onboard the ship, the ships captian and the police who are looking for a gangster (Martin's boss) who's passport and ticket Billy is using. All the while he has to try to keep his love intrest from marrying the successful London financier Sir Evelyn Oakleigh. |
